How to play Snakes and Ladders
Roll the die and race up the board: climb the ladders, dodge the snakes, first to 100 wins.
Goal
Be the first to get your token from the start to square 100, in the top corner of the board.
Setup
Two to four players, one token each: Red, Green, Yellow and Blue. Turn order is shuffled every game and Red always rolls first. Every token starts off the board, beside square 1.
Taking a turn
Tap Roll and your token moves that many squares along the board: left to right along the bottom row, right to left along the next, and so on up. That is your whole turn — the die decides everything.
Ladders
Stop at the foot of a ladder and you climb straight to its top. The long ladder from 28 goes all the way to 84, and the one from 80 finishes the game.
Snakes
Stop on a snake’s head and you slide down to its tail. Beware the snake on 87, which drops you to 24, and the three waiting between 93 and 98.
Sharing squares
Any number of tokens can share a square. Nobody is ever knocked back by another player.
Finishing
How you land on 100 is chosen when the table is set up. Exact roll (the classic rule): a roll that would take you past 100 is lost and you stay where you are. Bounce back: count up to 100 and back down with what is left over — a snake where you stop still counts. Any roll: reaching or passing 100 wins.
Winning
The first token on square 100 wins. Everyone else is placed by how far up the board they got.
Resigning
Forfeiting takes you out of the game and your token off the board. With two players that hands your opponent the win; with more, everyone else plays on. Leaving a game in progress does the same.
These are the rules Piece of Cake plays, word for word: the same rulesheet is in the app under Help → Snakes and Ladders. Every roll, deal and move is checked on our servers, so nobody can bend them.
