How to play Four in a Row
Drop discs into the grid and be first to line up four in a row.
Goal
Be the first to get four of your discs in a line — across, up and down, or diagonally.
Setup
Two players on a board seven columns wide and six rows tall. Colours are drawn at random when the game starts, so a rematch on the same table usually swaps who goes first. Orange always drops first.
Taking a turn
Tap a column to drop one of your discs into it. The disc falls to the lowest empty space in that column. A full column cannot take another disc.
Winning
The moment a drop completes four in a row the game ends and the winning line lights up. One drop can complete two lines at once.
Draws
If all 42 spaces fill up and nobody has four in a row, the game is a draw.
Tips
The centre column is part of more lines than any other, so it is usually the strongest place to start. Watch for your opponent lining up three with a gap — block it before they drop the fourth.
Resigning
Forfeiting resigns the game and hands your opponent the win. Leaving a game in progress does the same.
These are the rules Piece of Cake plays, word for word: the same rulesheet is in the app under Help → Four in a Row. Every roll, deal and move is checked on our servers, so nobody can bend them.
