How to play Ludo
Race your four tokens around the board and home before anyone else.
Goal
Be the first to get all four of your tokens around the board and into the centre.
Setup
Two to four players. Each colour starts with four tokens in its corner yard. Two players sit opposite each other as Red and Yellow; three add Green, four add Blue. Turn order is shuffled every game and Red always rolls first, then play goes clockwise.
Taking a turn
Tap Roll, then tap one of your highlighted tokens to move it that many squares clockwise. If none of your tokens can move, the turn simply passes.
Leaving the yard
You need a 6 to bring a token out onto your start square — the coloured square beside your yard.
Rolling again
A 6 earns another roll, and so does capturing a token or getting one home. Roll three 6s in a row, though, and your turn ends on the spot.
Capturing
Land on a square holding an opponent’s token and it goes back to their yard. Start squares and the star squares are safe: nobody can be captured there.
Getting home
After a full lap each token turns up its own coloured home column, where nobody else can reach it. You need the exact roll to land in the centre; a token that would overshoot cannot move.
Winning
The first player with all four tokens home wins. Everyone else is ranked by how far their tokens have travelled.
Resigning
Forfeiting takes you out of the game and clears your tokens from the board. With two players that hands your opponent the win; with more, everyone else plays on. Leaving a game in progress does the same.
These are the rules Piece of Cake plays, word for word: the same rulesheet is in the app under Help → Ludo. Every roll, deal and move is checked on our servers, so nobody can bend them.
